Why does my iron cool too quickly during steam ironing?

Modified on Tue, 25 Aug at 1:07 PM

If your iron seems to lose heat while steaming, the temperature may be set too low for steam use or the appliance may be cycling as it protects itself from overheating. It should recover quickly once the setting and usage pattern are correct.

Helpful checks

  1. Turn the temperature control to the setting recommended for steam ironing. Expected result: the iron should hold enough heat to turn water into steam rather than releasing droplets.
  2. Allow the iron to reheat fully after each pause. Expected result: the indicator light should go out again before you continue ironing.
  3. Avoid repeated bursts in very quick succession. Expected result: a short pause between steam bursts should keep output steadier.
  4. Check whether limescale or residue has built up in the soleplate holes. If the supplied instructions include self-cleaning, use that routine to help restore steam flow.

When to stop using it

Stop using the iron if it overheats, cuts out unexpectedly, smells burnt or shows visible damage. Do not open the appliance or attempt to adjust internal parts. If the problem continues after these checks, contact the retailer or store where the product was purchased for the available next steps.
