Why does my babyroom night light seem too bright at night?

Modified on Mon, 24 Aug at 6:52 PM

If the babyroom night light feels brighter than expected, start by checking the room conditions and placement. These lights are small mains-powered products, so stop using the unit if it overheats, flickers or seems damaged.

  1. Switch on the light in the intended room and observe it from the usual sleeping position.
Expected result: the light should feel soft rather than harsh. If it appears much brighter from close range, the location may be too near the bed or cot.
  2. Move the night light further from reflective surfaces such as mirrors, white walls or glossy furniture.
Expected result: a more distant position should reduce the perceived brightness. If the glow remains uncomfortable, try another socket position.
  3. Check that any sticker or decorative cover supplied with the product is fitted correctly and does not block the light unevenly.
Expected result: the light should spread evenly. If a sticker is wrinkled or poorly placed, remove and refit it only if it is meant to be removable.
  4. For sensor models, confirm whether the lamp is operating in a dark room, because the light can seem more noticeable when the room is otherwise still and quiet.
Expected result: the lamp should remain steady and consistent, not pulse or flash.
  5. Stop using the product if the casing becomes hot, the light output changes suddenly, or you notice any burning smell.

Do not cover the lamp with fabric, tape or paper to dim it. If the issue remains unresolved or safe use is uncertain, contact the retailer or store where the product was purchased.
