Why does my crêpe maker make a strange buzzing or clicking noise while heating?

A faint relay click or light operating noise can be normal, but loud buzzing, crackling or repeated clicking is not something to ignore. If the noise is accompanied by a burning smell, smoke, flashing lights that do not settle, or any sign of damage, stop using the appliance immediately and unplug it. These crêpe makers are intended for quiet domestic use and should not be opened for repair.

1. Identify when the noise happens

1. Listen carefully during preheating and again once the appliance reaches temperature.
2. Note whether the sound changes when the ready light cycles on and off.

A brief click as the thermostat regulates temperature can be normal.

2. Check the placement

1. Move the appliance to a flat, stable surface.
2. Make sure the cord is not strained or pulled tight.

Vibration from an uneven surface can make a harmless sound seem louder.

3. Inspect for loose or damaged parts

1. Look for movement around the plug, cord entry point and housing.
2. If anything rattles, feels loose or looks damaged, stop using the appliance.

Do not shake, open or tap the appliance to test it.

4. Stop use if the sound is abnormal

1. If the noise becomes harsh, irregular or is joined by smoke, smell or cutting out, unplug the appliance.
2. Do not continue cooking on it.

If the issue remains unresolved or safe use is uncertain, advise the consumer to contact the retailer or store where the product was purchased.
