Why does the fryer make a clicking, buzzing or rattling noise during heating?

A fryer can make a quiet click when the thermostat cycles, but repeated buzzing, rattling or metal-on-metal noise is worth checking. Unusual sounds can come from a loose basket, an uneven surface or a part that is not seated correctly.

Basic checks

1. Switch the fryer off and unplug it.
2. Let it cool, then check that the basket, lid and removable pan are fitted properly.
3. Place the fryer on a level, stable surface with the feet fully supporting it.
4. Look for loose screws, damaged parts, or anything touching the heating area.

What the sound means

A single soft click during normal temperature control is usually expected. Repeated buzzing, shaking or rattling that continues after repositioning the fryer suggests a loose component or a fault that should not be ignored.

When to stop using it

Stop using the fryer if the noise comes with burning smells, visible movement of parts, sparks, tripping power, or if the appliance vibrates strongly. Do not try to open sealed electrical parts.
