Why does my sandwich maker make a clicking noise while it heats?

A light clicking sound during heating is often the temperature control switching on and off, which can be normal on models with automatic temperature control. Stop using the appliance if the clicking becomes loud, irregular or is joined by a burning smell, because that can point to a fault.
