Why does my decorative lamp look cloudy or less bright even after cleaning the glass?

If the lamp still looks dull after cleaning, the cause is often outside the glass itself, such as a partially failed bulb, residue on internal surfaces or a poor light source match. Because decorative lamps can use different lamp types, start with the safest external checks first.

Look at the light source

1. Switch off and unplug the lamp.
2. Check whether the bulb is actually lighting fully, or whether it has become dim over time.
3. If the bulb is removable and compatible, test with a known-good bulb of the correct type and rating.

A healthy replacement that restores brightness suggests the original bulb was nearing the end of its life. If the lamp still looks hazy, inspect the shade or glass for residue, dust or condensation marks.

Clean only when cold and unplugged

• Use a soft, slightly damp cloth.
• Avoid abrasive pads, powders and harsh cleaners.
• Dry the surface fully before reconnecting power.

If the glass remains cloudy inside the enclosure or you can see signs of moisture, do not open any sealed parts. Stop using the lamp if there is evidence of cracking, dampness or heat damage. If you are unsure whether it is safe, contact the retailer or store where it was purchased.

Regular gentle cleaning and the correct bulb type help keep decorative lighting looking clear for longer.
