Why does my fan heater switch off after a short time?

If your fan heater stops after a short period, it may be reacting to overheating, restricted airflow or a power supply issue. Because this is a heating appliance, repeated cut-outs should be taken seriously rather than ignored. If the heater keeps stopping after the checks below, stop using it and contact the retailer where it was purchased.

Let the heater cool and reset

1. Switch the heater off and unplug it.
2. Wait until it has cooled fully before trying again.
3. Reconnect it directly to a working wall socket.

If it works again after cooling, the safety cut-out may have been triggered.

Check airflow around the unit

1. Make sure the air openings are clear.
2. Move the heater away from curtains, furniture and soft furnishings.
3. Do not cover the heater, even partially.

Good airflow should reduce the chance of the overheat protection activating.

Check the setting and room demand

1. Use the 1000 W or 2000 W heat setting as needed.
2. Raise the thermostat slightly and observe whether the heater remains on longer.

Stable running on a lower setting suggests the heater is still operating normally.
