Why does the microwave cabinet feel hot on one side after use?

Modified on Thu, 20 Aug at 7:02 PM

Some warmth around the cabinet can be normal after cooking, but heat concentrated on one side suggests ventilation, placement or workload issues. Stop using the microwave if the side panel becomes very hot, the casing smells burnt, or the appliance trips the power.

Check the installation space

  1. Make sure the microwave is sitting level on a stable surface.
  2. Leave clear space around the sides, rear and top so warm air can escape.
  3. Check that nearby items are not covering the vents or pressing against the casing.

If the heat reduces after improving airflow, poor ventilation was likely the cause. If one side still becomes much hotter than the rest, continue with a use-pattern check.

Review how it is being used

  1. Avoid running long cooking cycles back to back without a pause.
  2. Use cookware that fits the cavity so the food does not sit too close to the wall.
  3. For repeated heavy use, allow the appliance to cool between tasks.

When heat builds up only after long use, the microwave may simply need more recovery time. Uneven or excessive heat in normal use is less typical and should not be ignored.

When to stop

Stop using the microwave if the cabinet gets unusually hot, the heat is accompanied by smell or noise, or the appliance becomes unstable. If the issue remains unresolved, contact the retailer or store where the product was purchased. They can explain the available next steps.

Keeping the appliance clear of clutter and cleaning dust from the ventilation area can help reduce heat build-up over time.
