Why does my microwave door get warm during use?

A slight warmth around the door can happen during cooking, but the door should not feel excessively hot. If it is getting noticeably hot, the appliance should be checked carefully because heat around the door can point to poor sealing, heavy use or a fault. Stop using the microwave if the door becomes very hot, warped, loose or discoloured.

1. Check whether the food inside is steaming heavily or splattering. High moisture and splashes can make the door area feel warmer than usual.
2. Inspect the door seal and frame for food residue. Clean any visible deposits with a soft damp cloth and dry thoroughly.
3. Make sure the microwave is not pushed tightly against a wall or other appliance. Good airflow around the unit helps prevent excess heat build-up.
4. Observe whether the door is closing squarely and staying closed throughout the cycle. If it shifts, gaps appear, or the latch feels weak, stop using the product.
5. Run a short test with a normal load only if the door looks intact and the microwave has cooled first. If the door becomes hotter than expected again, stop the test.

If the door keeps getting unusually hot, or you have any doubt about the seal or structure, stop using the microwave and contact the retailer or store where it was purchased.
