A raclette that takes a long time to heat can still be working normally, especially if it is being used with a large group or with a cold plate. If the appliance never becomes warm enough for cooking, or the light behaves erratically, stop using it and unplug it.
- Allow enough preheating time. Switch the appliance on and wait before adding food. If the plate warms gradually, the appliance is probably functioning normally.
- Check that the thermostat or switch is set correctly. On models with an adjustable thermostat, a low setting can make the unit seem weak. Increase the setting carefully if the manual allows it, then observe whether the heat improves.
- Reduce the amount of cold food on the plate at once. Overloading the cooking surface can pull down the temperature. If smaller batches cook better, the issue is likely use-related rather than a fault.
- Make sure the appliance has space for ventilation. Crowding the unit or using it in a cold draught can slow heating. Place it on a stable surface and allow air around it.
- Check the indicator light behaviour. A light that stays on can simply mean power is present. If the unit still does not cook food after a normal preheat, stop using it.
Stop using the raclette immediately if the cord, plug or base becomes hot, if you smell burning or if the heat output changes suddenly during use. If the issue remains unresolved, contact the retailer or store where it was purchased.
