Why is my coffee maker making unusual noise or pumping air?

Modified on Thu, 20 Aug at 3:59 PM

Some noise at the start of use can be normal, but loud rattling, repeated pumping, or new grinding sounds should be checked. Do not keep running the appliance if the noise becomes sharp, smoky, or violent.

  1. Check the water level. Make sure there is enough water in the tank for the appliance to prime properly.
  2. Run a fresh water cycle. If the appliance has not been used for a while, flush it with clean water before making coffee again.
  3. Check the filter and jug fit. Make sure parts are seated correctly and not loose.
  4. Stop and let it settle. Turn the appliance off and allow it to cool if the sound does not fade.

Expected result: The sound should reduce and the brew should continue normally.

When to stop: Stop if the appliance knocks, rattles, or hisses loudly in a way that seems abnormal.

When to contact support: Contact support if the noise continues after flushing and refitting the removable parts.
