Why does my electric underblanket not lie flat on the bed?

If your electric underblanket keeps bunching up, it can affect comfort and safety. The instructions for these products say the blanket should lie flat, should not be creased during use and, on some models, the corner loops can be used to help secure it to the mattress. A blanket that moves around is more likely to heat unevenly or create hot spots.

1. Unplug the blanket and smooth it across the mattress so it sits flat from shoulder area to foot end. Expected result: the blanket should no longer form ridges or folds.
2. Check whether the mattress type or bed frame is causing the blanket to ruck or slip. If the bed is adjustable, make sure the cord cannot become trapped when the bed moves. Expected result: the blanket should stay flatter once the surface is stable.
3. If your model has corner loops or fastening points, attach them as described in the supplied instructions. Expected result: the blanket should move less during the night.
4. Place a fitted sheet over the blanket, rather than another thick blanket or duvet, if that is what the instructions recommend. Expected result: the underblanket should remain smoother and easier to use.
5. If the blanket cannot be kept flat, or if you see a badly creased, damaged or overheated section, stop using it immediately.

If the problem is still unresolved, contact the retailer or store where you bought the product. Do not keep using a blanket that cannot be secured safely.
