Why does my crêpe maker smell burnt after cleaning?

Modified on Tue, 25 Aug at 2:47 PM

A burnt smell after cleaning is often caused by leftover moisture, detergent residue, or small food particles that were not removed from the plate. The appliance should be cleaned only when it is unplugged and slightly warm, then left to dry fully before the next use.

Try these checks

  1. Unplug the appliance and let it cool a little, if it is still warm.
  2. Wipe the plate with a soft cloth and remove any loose residue.
  3. If food is baked on, use warm water with a little detergent on the residue, then clean gently with a non-abrasive plastic pad or moist kitchen paper.
  4. Leave the appliance open and dry it completely before heating it again.

What to observe

If the smell disappears after the next proper dry cycle, the cause was likely trapped moisture or residue. If the smell returns, becomes sharp, or is accompanied by smoke, stop using the appliance.

Cleaning mistakes to avoid

  • Do not immerse the appliance in water.
  • Do not use steel wool, sharp tools or aggressive chemical cleaners.
  • Do not put the appliance in a dishwasher.

If the issue remains unresolved, or if safe use is uncertain, stop using the product and contact the retailer or store where it was purchased.
