Why does my hair straightener cord twist or tangle too much during use?

If the cord twists or catches while you style, the swivel connection may not be moving freely or the cord may be wrapped too tightly in storage. A twisted lead is annoying, but it can also shorten the life of the appliance if it is pulled sharply.

1. Unplug the appliance and let it cool before handling the cord.
2. Unwind the cord fully and make sure it is not looped tightly around the body of the straightener.
3. Use the appliance on a clear, flat surface so the lead can rotate naturally while you style.
4. Check the cord near the plug and where it enters the appliance for visible wear, kinks or stiff spots.

What the result means

If the cord moves more freely once fully uncoiled, storage was likely the issue. If it still twists sharply or stays caught at one point, the swivel or internal cable may be wearing out.

When to stop using it

Stop using the straightener if the cord feels hot, frayed, cracked or intermittently cuts out when moved. Do not wrap the cable tightly around the appliance or continue using it under tension.
