Why is my hair straightener showing the wrong temperature?

If the temperature on your hair straightener seems wrong, the setting may not have been selected properly, the appliance may still be warming up, or the display may be reacting to a temporary fault. Use the lowest practical heat first, especially on fine, bleached or colour-treated hair.

Confirm the chosen setting

1. Switch the appliance on and reselect the temperature you want.
2. Wait for the ready indication before styling.
3. If the appliance has multiple heat levels, move up gradually rather than jumping straight to the highest setting.

If the display changes when you press the controls, the selector is responding.

Check whether the lock function is active

1. Look for a lock symbol or locked controls.
2. Unlock the appliance if the controls are not responding.
3. Try adjusting the temperature again.

If the temperature cannot be changed after unlocking, stop using the appliance until the issue is resolved.

Reset the appliance safely

1. Turn it off and unplug it.
2. Let it cool completely.
3. Plug it back in and select the temperature again.
