If the water level falls quickly, evaporation is usually the reason. Long cooking times, an uncovered container and higher temperatures can all speed up water loss. The appliance can only work safely if the level remains within the safe range.
What to check
- Check whether the container is covered. A cover or lid helps reduce evaporation.
- Check the cooking temperature. Higher temperatures usually cause faster water loss.
- Check the container size. A shallow container may lose water more quickly than a deeper one.
What the result means
- If the level falls only a little over time, normal evaporation is likely.
- If the level drops very fast, heat loss and an uncovered setup are the most likely causes.
- If the level becomes too low to keep the appliance safe, stop cooking immediately.
When to stop using it
Stop using the sous vide stick as soon as the water drops below a safe level or any electrical part is exposed. Do not top up near hot electrical parts unless you can do so safely and without splashing the controls.
Helpful prevention
Use a lid where possible, check the bath regularly and choose a container deep enough for the planned cook. If the issue remains unresolved or safe use is uncertain, contact the retailer or store where it was purchased.
