Uneven heating often comes from poor water circulation, an overcrowded container or food bags placed too close to the stick. The good news is that this is usually easy to improve with a small setup change. Stop using the appliance if the container is unstable, the stick cannot stay upright or the cord or plug shows damage.
Open up the water flow
- Move the food bags away from the heating area.
- Leave enough space around the stick for water to move freely.
- Do not pack the container too tightly.
If the water movement improves, the temperature should become more even.
Check the container and fill level
- Use a container with enough depth and width for the amount of food being cooked.
- Make sure the water level is within the marked range.
- Stir or reposition the food gently only if your cooking method allows it and the appliance is safe to touch.
A better container choice usually gives better heat spread.
Allow the system to settle
- Give the appliance time to recover after adding cold ingredients.
- Monitor whether the temperature display stabilises.
- Adjust the timer if the food needs a longer cook than originally planned.
If the heating becomes steady after the system settles, the issue was likely temporary.
When to stop using it
Stop using the sous vide stick if the problem continues with a stable setup, or if you notice overheating, smoke or a damaged cord. If the problem remains unresolved, contact the retailer or store where it was purchased.
