Why does my waffle maker only work in one wall socket?

If the waffle maker works in one socket but not another, the appliance may be fine and the problem may lie with the other socket, extension lead or room circuit. It is still worth checking the appliance carefully, because a faulty plug or cable can behave inconsistently.

1. Test the wafer maker in a known working wall socket, not in an extension lead. Expected result: the appliance heats normally. If it works here, the original socket or extension lead may be the issue.
2. Check whether other appliances also fail in the socket that does not work. Expected result: the socket or circuit also misbehaves. If so, stop using that socket until it has been checked properly.
3. Inspect the waffle maker cable and plug for kinks, cuts, loose parts or overheating. Expected result: the cord looks clean and secure. If it is damaged, stop using the appliance.
4. Make sure the plug is fully seated and not partly out of the socket. Expected result: the power and ready lights come on as normal. A poor connection can interrupt heating.
5. If the appliance only works intermittently, or you notice a warm plug, burning smell or flickering lights, stop using it at once.

If the waffle maker still only works in one socket after these checks, or safe use is uncertain, stop using it and contact the retailer or store where it was purchased.
