A hand blender should run with a steady working sound. If it rattles, vibrates strongly or sounds rough, stop and check for trapped food, a loose attachment or a hard ingredient that is putting strain on the motor. A manual for one Tristar hand blender also warns against dropping the appliance, as excessive vibration can loosen connections and affect proper function.
- Switch off the appliance and unplug it before touching the blade area. Expected result: the motor stops fully and the attachment can be inspected safely.
- Check whether the stick or accessory is fitted properly. Remove it, clean away any residue and refit it carefully. Expected result: the attachment sits securely without wobbling. If it does not, stop using the appliance.
- Look for hard pieces such as ice, pits, bones or very firm food. Remove them and retry with softer ingredients. Expected result: the noise should become smoother. If the appliance still shakes heavily, the load is too demanding.
- Inspect the blade end for damage, bends or looseness. Expected result: the blade area looks intact and turns freely by hand only when unplugged. If it looks damaged, stop using the hand blender immediately.
- If the appliance was dropped or struck recently, do not keep testing it repeatedly. Expected result: any hidden damage would need professional assessment by the retailer’s next steps.
If the noise or vibration continues after these checks, or if you notice heat, smell or loose parts, stop using it and contact the retailer or store where it was purchased.
