Why does my electric blanket display or controller not respond?

Modified on Mon, 24 Aug at 5:47 PM

If the controller screen or buttons do nothing, the problem may be a poor connection, a flat power supply or a controller fault. For these blankets, the controller is part of the safety system, so a non-responsive display should be treated carefully rather than overridden.

  1. Switch the blanket off, unplug it and reconnect the controller firmly. Expected result: the display should light up or respond once power is restored. If the connector does not lock securely, stop using the product.
  2. Confirm that the mains socket is working by testing it with another suitable appliance. Expected result: if the socket is live, the blanket should power up normally. If the socket works but the controller stays blank, move on.
  3. Leave the blanket unplugged for a short cooling period, then try again. Expected result: the controller should recover if it had entered a protection state. If it repeatedly remains unresponsive, stop using the blanket.
  4. Inspect the controller, cable and connector for cracks, heat damage or bent contacts. Expected result: all parts should look intact. If anything looks damaged, stop using the product immediately.
  5. If the controller still does not respond, or if the blanket behaves unpredictably, stop using it and contact the retailer or store where it was purchased.
