If your decorative lamp does not switch on, start with the simplest checks first, because the cause is often the power source, bulb fit or a loose connection. If there is any sign of heat damage, burning smell, crackling or melting, stop using the lamp at once and do not try it again.
Check the power supply
- Unplug the lamp, then plug it back in firmly at the wall socket.
- Try a different, known working socket.
- If the lamp uses a replaceable bulb, check that the bulb type and wattage match the lamp’s rating, then refit it carefully.
Expected result: The lamp should light steadily when the power connection and bulb are correct. If it works in another socket, the original socket or plug connection may be the issue.
Look for a loose bulb or fitting
- Switch off and unplug the lamp.
- Let the lamp cool down fully.
- Refit the bulb so it sits straight and secure, without overtightening.
Expected result: The lamp should come on without needing the bulb to be tapped or twisted. If it only works when moved, there may be a poor contact inside the holder.
Check for safe-use warnings
- Stop using the lamp if the cable, plug, holder or glass is cracked, scorched or loose.
- Do not open the housing or attempt internal repairs.
- If the issue remains unresolved, contact the retailer or store where you bought the product and ask about the next steps.
