Why does my LED plug-in lamp flicker when I touch the plug or move the lead?

If your LED plug-in lamp flickers only when the plug, lead or socket is moved, the most likely cause is an intermittent connection rather than a fault in the light itself. Start with simple checks, but stop using the lamp at once if you notice heat, burning smell, damaged insulation or visible sparking.

Check the connection first

1. Switch the lamp off at the socket and unplug it.
2. Inspect the plug pins, lead and the point where the cable enters the lamp for looseness, cuts or twisting.
3. Plug the lamp firmly into a different, known-working socket.
4. Without bending the cable sharply, switch it on and gently nudge the plug once. If the flicker returns, the connection is unstable.

If the lamp stays steady in another socket, the original socket may be the issue. If it still flickers when the plug is moved, the lamp, plug or cable may need attention.
