Why does my hand blender make a clicking or grinding sound?

A clicking or grinding sound usually means the blade is touching the container, the accessory is not fitted correctly or the appliance is struggling with the ingredients. Because this can develop into damage, stop and check it before continuing.

1. Switch off and unplug the appliance. Remove the accessory if needed and check the joint, blade end and container for trapped food or visible wear.
2. Refit the attachment carefully and make sure it sits straight. A crooked fit can create repetitive clicking.
3. Move the blade away from the sides and bottom of the jug. Contact with hard surfaces often causes grinding noises.
4. Try a smaller amount of softer food. If the sound disappears, the previous load was too heavy.
5. If the noise remains the same on an easy mixture, stop using the appliance.

The expected result is a steady motor sound without scraping or clicking. Stop using the hand blender immediately if the sound gets louder, if the shaft shakes, or if you notice sparks, smell burning or see cracked parts. Do not try to lubricate, open or tighten internal parts yourself. If the issue remains unresolved or safe use is uncertain, contact the retailer or store where the product was purchased.
