Why does my hand blender only work in one speed setting?

If your hand blender responds in only one speed or seems stuck on a single setting, check the controls and ingredient load before assuming the appliance is faulty. A sticky control or a mixture that is too heavy can make the speed changes feel unresponsive.

1. Switch off and unplug the appliance, then move the speed control or button gently through its range. It should move smoothly without sticking.
2. Look for dried food or residue around the button, dial or grip area. Clean the outside carefully with a soft, slightly damp cloth, then dry it fully.
3. Restart with a lighter mixture and test the different settings one at a time. If the blender behaves normally on a thin mixture, the recipe may have been too demanding.
4. Check whether the appliance changes sound when the speed is adjusted. A clear change usually means the control is working.
5. If the setting still does not change, stop using the appliance and do not force the control.
