Why does my blender jar lid keep popping open?

Modified on Mon, 24 Aug at 1:32 PM

If the lid lifts or pops open, stop the blender at once and unplug it. This usually means the lid is not fitted correctly, the jar is too full or the contents are building up pressure. Never hold the lid down by hand while the appliance is running.

  1. Open the blender and check that the lid is seated evenly all the way around. Expected result: the lid should sit flat and secure. If it still lifts, continue.
  2. Reduce the fill level and make sure hot or fizzy ingredients are not being blended unless the product instructions clearly allow it. Expected result: lower fill levels should reduce pressure. If the lid still moves, continue.
  3. Check for food trapped in the rim, latch or sealing edge. Clean and dry the parts before trying again. Expected result: a clean rim should allow a better seal.
  4. Restart with a short, brief blend. Expected result: the lid should remain closed throughout the test. If it does not, stop using the blender.

If the lid still cannot stay closed, or the jar shows any crack or distortion, stop using the product and contact the retailer or store where it was purchased.
