Why does my decorative lamp only work when the plug is nudged or held in a certain position?

If the lamp cuts in and out when the plug or lead moves, stop using it until you have checked the connection carefully. A loose connection can create intermittent power and may overheat, so the first priority is to rule out a damaged plug, socket or lead.

Check the supply first

  1. Unplug the lamp from the wall socket.
  2. Inspect the plug, lead and socket for visible damage, looseness, scorch marks or bent pins.
  3. Try the lamp in a different, known-working socket, without using an adaptor or extension lead.

If the lamp works normally in another socket, the original socket may be the issue. If it still cuts out when the lead is moved, the lamp or its cord may be faulty.

What to observe

  • Stable in a different socket: the original socket or plug fit may be poor.
  • Still intermittent: the lamp, plug or internal wiring may need professional attention.
  • Visible damage or heat marks: stop using the product immediately.

Do not keep testing a faulty connection

Do not continue to wiggle the lead to make the lamp stay on. If the plug, socket or cord shows any damage, or if you are unsure whether it is safe to use, stop using the lamp and contact the retailer or store where it was purchased for advice on the next steps.

As a general care measure, avoid pulling the lamp by the cable and keep the lead free from tight bends. This helps reduce strain on the connection over time.
