Why does my fan feel unstable or vibrate on the table?

Modified on Thu, 20 Aug at 11:01 PM

A fan that vibrates or feels unstable is often on an uneven surface, or it may be affected by dust or a nearby obstruction. The Tristar desk fan, box fans and stand fan all need to sit securely to run safely and quietly. Unplug the appliance before moving or cleaning it.

Check the placement

  1. Put the fan on a hard, flat surface, not on a soft mat, cushion or uneven shelf.
  2. Check that the base, stand or feet are fully in contact with the surface.
  3. Move loose objects away from the fan.
  4. Confirm the fan head or angle is not forced against a wall or other item.

Clean and observe

  1. Remove visible dust from the guards and air outlet with a soft brush or vacuum cleaner.
  2. Restart the fan and listen for changes in the vibration level.
  3. If vibration is reduced after cleaning or repositioning, that was likely the cause.

Stop using it if

  • The fan wobbles, scrapes or rocks even on a level surface.
  • Any part seems loose, damaged or broken.

If the problem remains unresolved or safe use is uncertain, stop using the product and contact the retailer or store where it was purchased.
