A small hot patch can point to the blanket being folded, trapped, or damaged along the heating path. Do not keep using it if the same area repeatedly becomes too hot, if you smell burning, or if the fabric shows wear or discolouration.
Start with the layout
- Switch the blanket off and unplug it.
- Smooth it flat so the fabric is not bunched at the foot, edge or centre.
- Make sure no pillows, mattress protectors or heavy bedding are trapping the same spot.
If the heat spreads more evenly after repositioning, the problem was likely caused by placement rather than the blanket itself.
Check for visible signs of damage
- Inspect the whole surface in good light.
- Look for creasing, thinning fabric, damaged stitching or a cable path that feels unusually firm in one place.
- Reconnect and test briefly on the lowest setting only.
What the result means
- If the hot patch disappears, keep using the blanket only when it is laid flat and free from pressure
- If the same patch returns, stop using the product
- If any area becomes sharply hotter than the rest, stop immediately
If the issue remains unresolved, or you are unsure whether the blanket is safe, stop using it and contact the retailer or store where it was purchased. The retailer can explain the available next steps.
