A burnt smell after repeated use is often linked to residue, fat build-up or food left on the plate or in the pans. If the smell is strong, the appliance smokes heavily or the underside becomes hot in an unusual way, stop using it at once.
- Let the appliance cool completely. Do not clean or inspect it while hot. Once cool, check the plate, pans and edges for grease or burnt crumbs.
- Clean all removable parts carefully. Follow the manual and use only suitable non-abrasive methods. If the smell improves after cleaning, build-up was the likely cause.
- Look for splashes or spills around the heating area. Grease trapped near the element can smell burnt during the next use. Remove only what is safe to remove after cooling.
- Review your cooking settings and quantities. Heavy loads and very fatty ingredients can create a stronger smell. If smaller amounts smell normal, use was probably too intensive.
Stop using the raclette immediately if the smell comes from the cord, plug or base rather than from the cooking area, or if any part appears damaged. If the issue remains unresolved, contact the retailer or store where it was purchased.
