Why is my iron not heating up at all?

If your iron stays cold, start with the power supply and temperature setting before assuming the appliance is faulty. For mains-powered irons in this range, the iron only heats when it is connected correctly and the thermostat is set to a heat position.

1. Check that the plug is fully inserted into a working wall socket and that the socket has power.
2. Turn the temperature control to a suitable fabric setting, then wait for the indicator light to show that heating has started and, if applicable, goes out once the set temperature is reached.
3. Try the iron on a stable, level surface and make sure it has not been left resting in a position that prevents normal heating.
4. If the cord, plug or housing is damaged, stop using the iron immediately and unplug it.

The expected result is that the indicator light comes on during heat-up and the soleplate becomes warm after a short wait. If there is still no sign of heat, or the iron switches off unexpectedly, stop using it and take it back to the retailer or store where it was purchased.

Do not keep trying to use a mains appliance that does not heat normally, as a hidden fault can create a safety risk. Do not open the housing or attempt any electrical repair.
