Why does my coffee maker smell burnt the first few times I use it?

A slight smell during the first uses can be normal for a new appliance, but a strong burning smell is not. Use the appliance only in a well-ventilated area and stop if the smell is harsh or unusual.

1. Check for packaging materials. Make sure all stickers, foil, and packing material have been removed.
2. Run a water-only cycle. If the manual allows it, flush the machine once before making coffee.
3. Check the hotplate area. Make sure nothing has spilled onto the heating surface.
4. Use the appliance normally. If the smell fades after one or two uses, it may have been part of the initial run-in.

Expected result: Any initial smell should reduce quickly and not become stronger.
