Why does my chopper smell hot during use?

Modified on Thu, 20 Aug at 2:57 PM

A hot smell usually means the appliance is being worked too hard, the bowl is overfilled, or food is jamming the blades. These choppers use 200 W motors, so they should be used in short bursts and allowed to cool if they become warm. fileciteturn0file8turn0file0

Diagnostic steps

  1. Switch off and unplug the appliance straight away.
  2. Let it cool down fully. Do not keep restarting it while it is warm.
  3. Reduce the amount of food in the bowl. Chop smaller batches instead of one large load.
  4. Check for jammed ingredients. Remove any pieces that are wrapped around or stuck near the blades, only after everything has stopped.
  5. Inspect the bowl, lid and cord for damage. Do not use the appliance again if you see melted plastic, scorch marks, or a damaged cable.

Expected result: The appliance should run without an unusual smell when used in smaller batches and with ingredients that do not jam the blades.

When to stop: Stop immediately if the smell is strong, electrical, smoky, or accompanied by sparking, overheating or smoke.

When to contact support: Contact support if the hot smell returns after cooling the appliance and reducing the batch size.
