Why does my corded vacuum cleaner not rewind properly?

If the cord does not rewind properly, it is usually because it is twisted, pulled out at an angle or the storage mechanism is under strain. Unplug the vacuum cleaner before handling the cord and never force it back inside.

What to try

1. Pull the cord out smoothly to the end of its safe travel, then guide it back slowly rather than letting it snap back.
2. Make sure the cord is not tangled around the handle, tube or hose before you press the rewind control.
3. Check for visible knots, flattening or kinks along the cord length.
4. Try rewinding with the vacuum upright on a flat surface so the cord enters the storage area in a straight line.
5. If only part of the cord rewinds, stop there and do not pull harder.

When to stop using it

Stop using the appliance if the cord jams repeatedly, the rewind action is jerky, or the cord appears damaged, frayed or warm. Do not open the housing or try to repair the rewinding system yourself. If the issue remains unresolved or safe use is uncertain, contact the retailer or store where the product was purchased.
