Why does my hair straightener feel loose at the hinge?

A loose hinge can make the plates close unevenly, reduce control and make the straightener feel less stable in the hand. It may be a sign of wear, debris around the moving joint or damage from storage. Stop using the appliance if the hinge is visibly bent or the plates no longer meet properly.

Inspect the hinge area

1. Unplug the straightener and let it cool fully.
2. Open and close it slowly, watching whether both sides move together.
