Why does my hair straightener leave gaps or missed sections?

Modified on Tue, 25 Aug at 8:42 AM

If your hair straightener leaves gaps or misses sections, the issue is often the section size, the way the plates are closed or the condition of the hair. Stop using the appliance if the plates do not close properly, the cable is damaged or the unit feels unsafe to hold.

Adjust the section size

  1. Take a smaller, tangle-free section of dry hair.
  2. Place it evenly between the plates.
  3. Close the straightener gently and glide it through in one smooth movement.

Expected result: each pass should smooth the section more evenly. If the problem continues, move to the next check.

Review the hair condition

  1. Remove heavy styling products before straightening.
  2. Comb the hair through so there are no knots or thick clumps.
  3. Try again on a section that is not too close to the scalp or too wide for the plates.

If the appliance still leaves uneven sections after adjusting your technique, clean the plates when the unit is cool and unplugged. A dirty surface can reduce contact with the hair. If the problem remains after cleaning, stop using the product and contact the retailer or store where it was purchased.

Good habits

  • Work from the back towards the front for consistency.
  • Use steady pressure, not force.
  • Allow the appliance to fully warm up before styling.
