If you can see moisture inside the detector housing, treat that as a warning sign. The unit may have been exposed to condensation, splashing or a leak that reached parts of the product it should not normally contact, so it should not be trusted until checked safely.
- Remove the detector from the wet area and place it on a dry surface away from the leak. Expected result: the outside should begin drying without further exposure.
- Do not open the housing. Wipe only the outside with a dry cloth and allow the unit to dry fully in air. Expected result: visible surface moisture should reduce, but internal moisture means the unit still needs caution.
- Check the installation spot for ongoing dripping, splashing or condensation. Expected result: the source of water should be identified and stopped before the detector is reused.
- Once fully dry, test the detector only if your instructions allow a user test. Expected result: it should behave normally and not show unusual beeping or fault behaviour.
- If moisture remains visible inside, or the detector behaves unpredictably, stop using it and contact the retailer or store where it was purchased.
Stop using the detector immediately if water has entered the housing or if the case appears damaged, because the alarm may no longer be reliable. Do not try to dry the interior with heat, tools or compressed air.
To help prevent a repeat, keep the unit away from direct splash paths and check for slow leaks under sinks, washing machines and dishwashers.
