Why does my water detector seem to delay before sounding?

If your water detector reacts later than expected, check whether the sensor is too far from the leak, partially blocked or sitting on a surface that delays contact with water. A slow response often points to placement rather than a fault.

Check the distance to the leak source

1. Move the detector closer to the most likely point where water will appear first.
2. Make sure it is still in a safe position where it can detect water without being splashed constantly.

Expected result: the detector should react sooner once it is closer to the leak path. If not, continue.

Check the sensor contact

3. Make sure the detector is sitting level and the sensor can touch water immediately.
4. Remove dirt, residue or obstructions from the contact area, then dry the detector fully.

Expected result: the sensor should now respond faster to moisture. If it still reacts slowly, inspect the unit for damage.

When to stop using it

5. If there is visible damage, moisture inside the housing or the detector still reacts too slowly after repositioning, stop using the product immediately.
