Why is the ready light on my contact grill not going out?

If the ready light stays on longer than expected, the grill may still be heating, or the temperature control may not be cycling in the usual way. On supported models the indicator lights are meant to show heating and readiness, so the pattern of the light is a useful clue. Because the appliance runs on mains electricity and hot plates, stop use if the casing becomes excessively hot or if there is any smell of burning.
