Why does my fan work, but the control or switch feel faulty?

If the fan only responds when the control is held in a certain position, or the switch feels loose, stiff or unreliable, treat it as a fault rather than a quirk. Stop using the fan if the control is damaged, if the fan cuts out when touched or if you notice heat, smell or sparking.

1. Switch the fan off and unplug it before touching the control area.

3. Check whether the plug is secure and the cable is not strained at the socket.
