Why does my Wi-Fi water detector lose connection after installation?

Modified on Mon, 24 Aug at 2:52 PM

If the Wi-Fi water detector drops offline after it has already been installed, check the network environment first. Short connection losses are often caused by range, interference or a router issue rather than a complete product failure.

Work through the basics

  1. Confirm the router is working normally with other devices.
  2. Check whether the detector is too far from the router or shielded by walls, cupboards or plumbing.
  3. Look for nearby wireless devices that may interfere with the connection, especially during busy household use.
  4. Move the detector temporarily closer to the router and see whether the connection stabilises.

What the result means

  • If the connection improves when the device is closer to the router, location or signal strength is likely the cause.
  • If it still disconnects near the router, the unit may need further checking.

Keep the unit safe

  1. Do not place the detector in a damp or extreme-temperature location.
  2. Do not open the housing or try to repair the wireless module yourself.
  3. Retest only once the unit is dry, secure and back in a sensible location.

Stop using the detector if connection problems coincide with unreliable alarm behaviour, physical damage or signs of moisture entering the unit. If the issue remains unresolved, contact the retailer or store where it was purchased. The manuals mention interference from 2.4 GHz wireless devices and advise keeping the system away from them during use.
