Why does my toaster defrost function seem weak?

If the defrost cycle seems weak, the bread may be too cold, too thick, or not suited to the toaster setting you chose. Stop using the toaster if the body, cord or plug gets hot, or if the appliance starts smoking.

1. Check that you are actually pressing the defrost function, if your model has one. Expected result: the toast cycle should take longer than a normal cycle for frozen bread.
2. Use a single slice of frozen bread, not a stacked or folded piece. Expected result: the bread should thaw and toast more evenly than it would without the defrost setting.
3. Try a lower browning setting first, then adjust carefully on the next cycle if the manual for your model allows it. Expected result: frozen bread should not come out burnt on the outside and cold in the middle.
4. Check that the bread is not too thin or packed tightly into the slot. Expected result: a regular slice should be more consistent than a very thin one.
5. If the defrost function still does not help, or if heating seems uneven or unsafe, stop using the toaster and contact the retailer or store where it was purchased for the available next steps.
