Why does my electric underblanket make static shocks?

  1. Check whether the room is very dry. Expected result: static is more common in dry air, especially in winter or in heated rooms.
  2. Try cotton sheets and remove synthetic layers from the immediate bed surface. Expected result: static should be reduced if fabric friction is the cause.
  3. Make sure the blanket lies flat and is not rubbed repeatedly by loose bedding. Expected result: fewer creases and less friction can reduce the shocks.
  4. Test again after improving room humidity where practical. Expected result: static should lessen if dry air was the main cause.
  5. If the shocks are strong, repeated or come with visible damage, stop using the product. Expected result: a blanket that shocks persistently should not be treated as normal.
