Why does the microwave light stay on after cooking has finished?

Modified on Thu, 20 Aug at 7:02 PM

If the cavity light remains on after the programme ends, the door switch or a control setting may not be resetting properly. Stop using the microwave if the light stays on together with heat, fan noise, or any sign that the appliance is still running.

Check the door position

  1. Open the door fully, then close it again with a single firm motion.
  2. Listen for a clean latch sound.
  3. See whether the interior light goes off immediately when the door closes.

If the light behaves normally after a careful close, the door may simply not have been latched properly. If it stays on regardless of door movement, continue with a simple reset.

Try a brief power reset

  1. Switch the microwave off at the wall socket and unplug it.
  2. Wait briefly, then reconnect power.
  3. Test the light and door response without starting a cooking cycle.

If the light still does not respond as expected, the switch or control system may need checking.

When to stop using it

Stop using the microwave if the light stays on while the appliance appears active, or if the door no longer seems to control the cavity properly. If the issue remains unresolved, contact the retailer or store where the product was purchased. They can explain the available next steps.

As routine care, keep the door frame clean so residue does not interfere with the latch or switch area.
