Why does my garment steamer use up the water tank much faster than expected?

A fast-emptying tank is not always a fault, especially on higher-output models, but it can also happen if the steam setting is left on continuously or if the reservoir is not filled correctly. Compare what you are seeing with your model’s expected steam output and tank size, then check how the appliance is being used .

Check whether the usage matches the design

1. Look up the tank volume in your manual. The supplied models include smaller handheld tanks, and larger vertical models with much bigger reservoirs.
2. Observe how long the unit steams from a full tank. A compact handheld steamer will naturally run for a shorter time than a 3 litre vertical model.

Check your steaming habit

1. Only use the steam button when needed. If your model has a lockable steam button, make sure it is not engaged accidentally.
2. Do not keep the nozzle pressed continuously against fabric longer than necessary.
3. Ensure the tank is fitted properly after refilling, as poor seating can affect water flow.

What the observation means

• Tank life matches the model: the shorter run time is likely normal.
• Tank empties unusually fast with weak steam or dripping: there may be a leak, valve issue or scale problem.

Stop using the steamer if water seems to disappear abnormally quickly together with leaking, overheating or poor steam performance. If the issue remains unresolved or safe use is uncertain, contact the retailer or store where it was purchased.
