If the steamer trips the circuit breaker or causes the socket to switch off, stop using it straight away. This can point to an electrical fault, or to overload on the same circuit, and it should not be ignored.
Check for a simple overload first
- Unplug the steamer and any other appliances sharing the same circuit.
- Plug the steamer directly into a wall socket on its own and try again.
- Observe whether the circuit still trips. One manual recommends avoiding other appliances on the same circuit when the steamer is in use .
Inspect for visible issues
- Check the plug, lead and socket for damage, looseness or scorch marks.
- Make sure the appliance is dry externally and has not been stored where moisture could enter the housing.
- Do not continue testing if you see damage, smell burning or hear crackling.
How to interpret the result
- Only trips on a shared circuit: overload may be the cause.
- Trips on a dedicated socket too: the appliance may be faulty and should not be used.
Stop using the product immediately if the breaker trips more than once, if the plug or cord heats up, or if there is any sign of electrical damage. If the issue remains unresolved or safe use is uncertain, contact the retailer or store where it was purchased.
