Why does my fire extinguisher need to be kept away from heat or sunlight?

Heat and direct sunlight can affect how safely a fire extinguisher stores and performs. Stop using it if it has been kept too close to a radiator, window, heater or other heat source and the condition now looks uncertain.

1. Check where the extinguisher is mounted or stored. Expected result: it should be in a cool, accessible place away from heat sources.
2. Look at the pressure gauge after moving it to a more suitable location. Expected result: the needle should sit in the green zone and remain stable.
3. Inspect the label, handle and bracket for heat-related wear or distortion. Expected result: none of these parts should be warped, faded or hard to read.
4. Confirm that the extinguisher can still be lifted, seen and reached quickly. Expected result: access should remain clear at all times.
5. If the unit seems affected by heat or sunlight, or you are unsure whether it is still safe, stop using it and contact the retailer or store where it was purchased.

For prevention, keep the extinguisher in a visible position, away from continuous heat and inside the temperature range shown on the product. Routine storage in the right place helps the gauge and the outer body stay easier to inspect.
