Why does my water detector sound weak or quieter than expected?

If the alarm sounds but seems weak, treat it as a warning and check the detector straight away. A quieter alarm can be caused by a low battery, dirt on the unit, or sound being muffled by the way it is mounted or stored.

Check the alarm path

1. Make sure the detector is not covered by cloth, tape or an enclosure.
2. Remove it from any area where the sound may be trapped against a wall or soft surface.
3. Trigger a safe test only if the product instructions allow it, and listen for a clear alarm tone.

If the sound becomes noticeably stronger when the detector is moved into open air, the original position was reducing audibility.

Check battery and cleanliness

1. Replace the battery if the model indicates a low battery warning or if it is near the end of its expected life.
2. Wipe the exterior gently with a dry soft cloth or brush to remove dust or residue.
3. Let the unit dry fully before placing it back.

If the alarm remains unusually quiet after these checks, do not rely on it for protection.

When to stop using the product

• Stop using it if the sound is weak even with a fresh battery.
• Stop using it if the alarm is intermittent or cuts out.
• Stop using it if there are signs of water ingress or damage.
