A slight smell during the first use can happen as the cooker warms up for the first time, but a strong burning smell is not normal. If the smell is sharp, persistent or accompanied by smoke, unplug the appliance and stop using it immediately.
Check whether the smell is only from first use
- Unplug the cooker and let it cool.
- Wipe the outside and lid with a clean damp cloth, then dry thoroughly.
- Use the appliance once more in a well-ventilated room and observe whether the smell fades quickly.
If the smell disappears after the first or second use, it was likely caused by initial heating residues.
Check for residues and cleaning issues
- Make sure no packaging material, dust or cleaning product remains on the cooking parts.
- Do not use harsh or abrasive cleaners that can leave residues behind.
- Ensure the water container and heating area are clean and dry before starting.
If the smell gets stronger rather than weaker, stop using the appliance.
When to stop using it
- Stop using it if the smell is accompanied by smoke, sparking or unusual noise.
- Stop using it if the base becomes excessively hot.
- Stop using it if the smell continues after careful cleaning and a short test cycle.
If the issue remains unresolved, contact the retailer or store where it was purchased.
