Why does my blender smell hot during use?

A hot smell usually means the motor is working too hard, the jar is overloaded, or the blender needs to cool down. Do not keep using it if the smell is sharp, electrical or accompanied by visible smoke.

1. Switch off the blender and unplug it. Expected result: the appliance should cool before you inspect it further.
2. Check whether the jar was filled above a sensible level for the ingredients. Expected result: a smaller batch should reduce strain on the motor.
3. Look for food stuck around the blades or a lid that is forcing the contents to pack down. Expected result: the mixture should be able to move freely through the jar.
4. Allow the blender to cool fully, then try a short test run with a small amount of soft ingredients. Expected result: the motor should run without a strong odour if overheating was the cause.
5. Inspect the cord, plug and base for heat marks or softening plastic. Expected result: there should be no visible damage or unusual warmth when the appliance is idle.

Stop using the blender immediately if you smell burning, notice smoke, or if the base becomes very hot. If the problem remains unresolved, contact the retailer or store where it was purchased. The BL-4431 has a 180 W motor, so heavy loads and long continuous blending can increase strain if the jar is overfilled or the ingredients are too thick.
