Why does my fryer lid no longer close properly?

Modified on Mon, 24 Aug at 12:56 PM

If the lid will not close, the hinge, seal area or basket position may be preventing it from sitting flat. The supplied manuals include detachable lids on several models and warn never to cover the bowl and filter during use, so the lid must fit correctly and be used only as designed.

  1. Unplug the fryer and wait until it is fully cool. Expected result: you should be able to close the lid without heat or steam. If the lid is hot, warped or cracked, stop using the fryer.
  2. Check whether the basket or handle is in the wrong position and stopping the lid from closing. Expected result: the lid should move freely once the basket is seated correctly. If not, do not force it.
  3. Inspect the rim, hinge area and filter area for crumbs, oil residue or trapped packaging material. Expected result: a clean sealing surface should allow the lid to close more neatly. If cleaning does not help, stop using the appliance.
  4. Close the lid gently without pressing down hard. Expected result: it should sit flush. If the lid still does not fit, contact the retailer or store where it was purchased.

Stop using the fryer immediately if the lid is cracked, loose or allows hot oil to spray outside the bowl. Do not use makeshift weights or repairs.
